Myth and Magick Infuse Chilean Island
Posted: Disenchanted Faerie @ Wed Jul 02, 2008 4:16 pm
As a setting for supernatural spirits, witches and warlocks — Chiloe lacks for nothing.

The atmosphere on this tear-shaped island crackles like a fire on a storm-swept afternoon.

A 20-minute ferry ride off of Chile's southwest coast, Chiloe was the last stronghold of the Spanish conquistadors in Chilean territory. The beliefs, superstitions and legends brought from colonial Spain mixed with ...

King Puck: Irish Town Honors His Goatness
Posted: Disenchanted Faerie @ Wed Jul 02, 2008 4:13 pm
In the town of Killorglin in County Kerry, the reins of power are handed to a wild billy goat once a year. It's an opportunity for the people to let out their inner beast -- and for tourists to party the night away, writes reader Desmond F. Kelly.

The crowning of a king has always been cause for celebration. In the small town of Killorglin in the south-west corner of Ireland, it still is -- wit...

bizarre altar trouble
Posted: Disenchanted Faerie @ Mon Jun 30, 2008 9:38 pm
a friend of mine has been having rather odd troubles with her altar.

whenever an ant gets close to her altar, or maybe an inch onto it, it immediately dies.

it only happens to ants, nothing else.
they only come near the corners, they dont go near the sides of the altar.
there has been no food, drink, cleaning products or other substance there that would cause them to die.

the closest t...

Witch Threatens Spell in Support for Giant
Posted: Disenchanted Faerie @ Fri Jun 27, 2008 5:09 pm
A WHITE witch has threatened to cast a spell on the National Trust for letting the Cerne Abbas Giant fade away.

Controversy surrounds the 180ft chalk giant this year because the grass has not been cropped, resulting in the greenery covering up the outlines of the famous Dorset landmark.

The National Trust says the wet spring and the fact that they have been unable to borrow the sheep that us...

The Witch..That Wasn't?
Posted: Disenchanted Faerie @ Fri Jun 27, 2008 5:07 pm
During the witch crazes that once swept the planet, to have been a person harboring clairvoyant talents, or mystical knowledge must have been something akin to a dire curse. As many women during the 1600s were killed if found "guilty" of being possessed by dark forces, reading today as spectacularly spooky tales of evil and sorcery even if the truth is less strange than the fiction.

I...

Mysterious Stone Attcks in 1682 Inspire Book
Posted: Disenchanted Faerie @ Fri Jun 27, 2008 5:00 pm
All of a sudden, late on a moonlit June night, the assault began.

Flying rocks - hundreds of them. Some the size of apples; some weighing as much as 8 pounds; others blazing hot, as if retrieved from a fire.

During the four-hour onslaught, launched by invisible attackers, stones pummeled the tavern walls, coming in like a horizontal rain. They plummeted down the chimney. They seemed to clatt...

Shop or Temple - Witch Is It?
Posted: Disenchanted Faerie @ Thu Jun 19, 2008 8:05 am
A BID to set up the UK’s first official Wiccan temple in Reddish is living on a prayer after the Government refused to recognise the building as a genuine place of worship.

Sandra Davis, high priestess at the Crystal Cauldron, on Gorton Road, is appealing the decision she claims is discriminatory.

She applied to have her business - a shop and meeting room - recognised as a temple but this we...

Pagan Symbols On Fence Must Go, City Insists
Posted: Disenchanted Faerie @ Sun Jun 15, 2008 7:09 am
Robert Frost once said "good fences make good neighbors."

Apparently not when the fence is used to express religious beliefs.

A Des Moines couple say city officials have attacked their pagan religion and their civil rights after a complaint from a neighbor led to a notice to remove symbols that had been painted on the fence. Officials said the symbols are graffiti and must be remov...
